Behind Breaking Hearts Barside at Scarlet Exclusive
It didn't take us long to decide where to shoot our featured lookbook, Breaking Hearts Barside. We wanted something sultry, something grand, something slightly dark yet nothing grungy. Very specific, we know. We just had a vision and knew exactly how we wanted to showcase our looks. When we found Scarlet Exclusive, we felt like we hit the jackpot. The shoot resulted in a spread of jersey gowns, silks, sequin and lace in a setting that makes you want to look nothing but chic.
Scarlet Exclusive, located on St Paul in Montreal's Old Port, was the perfect fit for our vision. Owner, Anthony Gentile, was kind enough to open his doors and let us capture our perfect shots in his beautiful restaurant. It was hard to take a bad picture with such gorgeous settings. On top of that, their food is incredible (you HAVE to order the zucchini flowers!). If you are in the Montreal area, it is definitely a must-try.
We showed up with our large suitcase at 8 AM and unpacked all our evening looks by the bar. We brought about 11 outfits on set, and together, Sabrina (stylist), Melissa (model) and Amy (photographer) chose their top 5 to shoot. It was our first time working with model/blogger, Mel. We enjoyed working with her creative and keen eye. We've always followed her blog, STYLD BLK, and love her look. It was amazing to have a taste of that transfused in our photos. She was just the chillest. She was sick the night before and barely slept, but being the trooper that she is, still came in, rise-and-shine, and gave her A-game. Who else can look that good and be so nice in those circumstances? We're pretty sure, nobody.
We kept the hair and make up simple with a thin black line and a thick layer of mascara. We love glam, but nothing cheesy. You never want to go overboard with the make up, especially when wearing sequin and lace. Our tip for nailing this winter's evening look: stay simple and elegant and let the dresses do the talking.
A couple of hours and tons of pictures later, bus boys started arriving for their night shift and we knew it was our cue to leave. We had a great day, and will definitely be back for yummy food and wine over the holidays.
