First post of 2015 and the start of a fresh year. What now? By time the first of January rolls around, you've mapped out a detailed plan and schedule: gym 5 days a week, no more carbs and less of those gin tonics. By January 2, you've already fallen off the wagon and are sitting at In N' Out Burger, with some kind of excuse that THIS is an exception to the rule. (Literally, we were at In N' Out Burger on January 2…it was our first time, we're not from LA, and we just couldn't say no).
Our mindset? "Besides today, this year it going to be different (seriously). We're starting a @liquidnutrition cleanse tomorrow."
Wishful thinking? Maybe, but not to worry. We have a solution. Not for a proper diet-we are certainly not experts on this topic.
You can conquer 2015 and come out a winner. Lucky for you, we've mapped out some small yet tangible goals on a topic that we know TONS about: shopping.
1 | QUALITY > QUANTITY
Living by the "buy less, but better" philosophy. It lasts longer, looks better, feels better, fits better, and has a higher re-sale value.
One might think they cannot afford what they're lusting over, but you probably end up tallying up to that amount in the long run. Think about all the lesser quality substitutes you purchased to fill that void and do the calculation. You might be surprised. You feel you're getting more bang for your buck, but they end up not lasting as long and you'll need to spend that money again, sooner, to replace it.
2 | SPEND LESS MONEY ON COFFEE AND/OR DRINKING
Those classic black Manolo pointed pumps you've been eyeing? They could be yours if you just cut back on those daily lattes. Think about it. $5.50 a latte. Let's say you get 4/week. That tallies up to $22 on coffee weekly. If you just made your coffee at home, you could have those $600 Manolos in about 27 weeks. Yup! You can be walking around in your Manolos this summer. Even better idea: if you purchase a pre-owned pair at $195 (like we sell
here, *cough, cough*) they can be yours by time March break rolls around. Designer coffee, or home-made coffee and and designer shoes? I don't about you, but that latter sounds pretty damn good to us.
Now, if you wanna be REALLY adventurous, replace your cocktail on a dinner night out with sparkling water or juice. Assuming you go out for dinner once a week, that's in extra $12 in your pocket. Your Manolos just got home a lot quicker, and you just got healthier and richer. You're welcome!
3 | SHOP PRE-OWNED
Access beautiful designer pieces at a fraction of the price. Sabrina's Closet doesn't accept any products unless the are in good, excellent or new condition, so you're getting the best of both worlds: authentic quality at an accessible price. Plus, you may find unique pieces you wouldn't find elsewhere.
4 | GET ORGANIZED
What better way to kick off 2015 than with a clean closet? See what you have hiding in there and make smarter shopping decisions. For our closet organization tips, check out our blog post 4 Tips to Clean Your Closet.
5 | GET RID OF WHAT YOU DON'T USE
- Have you worn it in the past 2 years?
- Would you buy this piece today?
If the answer to both of these questions is no, donate it. Try to get rid of things you are doubled up on or can create the same look with. Luxury pieces in excellent condition that you know you won't use can be sold to make room for what you really need…Sabrina's Closet can help you on that front by
consigning your goods.
6 | CREATE A SHOPPING BUDGET
Set up a monthly shopping budget. Do not, under any circumstances, surpass that budget until the next month even if it is that perfect piece at a perfect price . If it's still available when the next month comes around, you guys were just meant to be. Fate works in funny ways ;).
7 | BE REALISTIC. SHOP WEARABLE PIECES, NOT PIECES FOR YOUR IMAGINARY LIFE.
Chances are, unless you are getting married this year, you probably won't have an occasion to wear that beautiful $995 white lace slip gown from Haute Hippie. NO, you will not be a beautiful snow angel for Halloween. Just don't do it.
8 | SHOP MULTI-PURPOSE PIECES
We're not talking about those weird eyeglasses that turn into sunglasses (is there a name for those?). We're talking about those awesome pieces that you can literally wear with everything. For example, that perfect knit sweater you can pair with leggings to the gym, over skinnies for shopping and over a skirt for dinner.
9 | PAY ATTENTION TO BODY TYPE
There's no point of buying something to stay on trend if it doesn't suit you. Know your assets and accentuate them. If you have a small waist, opt for a crop top. Slim legs, you can wear a printed pant.
10 | SHOP OFF-SEASON SALES
Yes, we all love shopping and wearing it the next day for that instant gratification. However, shopping off-season can be very beneficial price-wise. Start looking for bikinis in the dead of winter, or coats when it's scorching hot out.

Now you won't have to cringe when your Visa statement comes in. Yay!
